At Drake Professional Massage, we do our best to provide all of the information that our customers are looking for. In today’s blog post, our team is going to go over a few of the most frequently asked questions that we receive. If there’s a question that you have that isn’t included in today’s blog post, contact our team and we’d be more than happy to get it answered for you!

Do I need to get completely undressed?

No. When getting a massage, you only have to strip down to the level that you’re comfortable. A majority of the people that come in to get a massage will strip down to their undergarments. If you’re not fully comfortable with that, we suggest wearing shorts and a tank top or t-shirt. Our priority is for you to be comfortable throughout the massage.

How often should I schedule a massage?

There are various ways that this question can be answered, so we’ll do our best to tackle it here. But, if you feel like you need further guidance, give us a call and we can help. For starters, it depends on what it is that you’re receiving a massage for in the first place. If, for example, you’re using a massage as a means of preventative care, monthly massages may be more than enough. If you have been getting massages for pain relief, you may need to schedule them more frequently.

How long does a massage last?

A massage can be as short or as long as you’d like. There are very quick and short chair massages that can provide you with a few moments of relaxation and there are also hour and a half massages that can provide you with relief from tension and pain. Depending on what you’d like to get out of your massage, you can schedule one as long or as short as you need.

Can you get a massage when you’re pregnant?

Yes — absolutely! Expecting mothers are, for good reason, concerned about whether or not a massage is something that they should be scheduling. The good news is, massages are absolutely something that pregnant women can schedule. In fact, there are countless benefits that expecting mothers can enjoy from routine massages! So, if you’re an expecting mother, don’t hesitate to schedule a massage.

Do I need to talk to my therapist during my massage?

Talking is something that you are totally able to do during the massage if you choose to. With that being said, we do suggest taking this time to fully relax so that your body is able to enjoy all of the benefits of the massage. Though simple conversation may not feel like it’s exerting your body, it is keeping you from fully relaxing. So, even though you might be a little bit nervous and you want to talk through the jitters, take some deep breaths and ease yourself into a relaxed state.

Is it common to fall asleep during a massage?

Many people fall asleep during a massage, so there’s absolutely nothing to be embarrassed about if this happens to you! Many people go into a massage feeling stressed and deprived of sleep, which is why so many people do fall asleep when they finally get a moment to lay down, close their eyes, and relax. Your massage therapist will always end the massage in a calm and soothing voice so that you can slowly wake up without being startled.

Do you tip your massage therapist?

Tipping is always a tricky thing, especially when it comes to services like massage. With that being said, tipping is not a requirement but it is always a great way to show appreciation to your massage therapist when you’re pleased with the work that they’ve done. In most instances, you want to leave 20 percent of the overall cost of the massage as a tip.
